What Students Are Saying

"

I’ve grown up serving in church all my life, and I was having a hard time singing in church again… Chesney not only lifted me up when I was down, but empowered me to reach new levels of talent that I didn’t think were possible. In a very short time, I have seen massive improvement in my vocal range, control, and stamina.

My daughter nailed her song tonight. I could hear her in the other room and it was really good… This is the first audition that she didn’t come out crying and that she sang it like she rehearsed it. Thank you.

Through my training with Chesney, my voice has improved so much, my range has expanded, and I’m learning how to sing in a healthy, sustainable way. I’m forever grateful for her expertise, and am eager to keep learning and improving! Chesney is extremely knowledgeable and puts the student at ease with her warmth and patience.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve been asked this a couple times, so just clearing the air here! TruVoice Vocal Studio is an online voice lesson studio for ages 10+ specializing in instruction for genres such as pop, worship, theater, country, and others like these. We do not offer classical instruction.

Most students have helpful realizations about their voice and tendencies within the first couple of lessons. However, more significant changes in the voice may take weeks or months of consistent effort. Singing takes time to develop just like any other skill!

Yes! I have been teaching students online for over 3 years now and have had wonderful results. DM or email me! I’d be happy to chat about it.

Of course we sing songs, but we do a lot more! Developing good technique requires becoming familiar with each resonator and learning to sing in what is called a mix voice. We do various types of vocal exercises to work on this!

Yes — when done correctly! Pushing up and straining to reach high notes isn’t healthy. Singing in a breathy tone 24/7 isn’t healthy. But singing everything in head voice won’t give you the power and authenticity you want in worship and other genres. I can teach you how to sing all through your range in a way that is healthy and sustainable for your voice.

Mostly, yes… Classical instructors typically focus on things like breath control, head voice, tall vowels, etc. While these aspects of the voice are important, pop instructors lean more into developing each resonator and also teach techniques such as edge and belting.

While anyone at any age can sing, it is not recommended to engage the vocal cords of younger children in some of the heavier coordinations that can come with pop technique. Usually around age 10, the vocal folds are ready to take on some of these more mature techniques.
